Abstract

A comparative analysis of the selected prose texts by Boba Blagojević (1947–2000) and Dino Buzzati (1906–1972) allowed us to highlight the presence and change of the encounter with the dead motif, as well as similarities and differences between the poetics of the afore- mentioned writers. The intertextual connections established with Dante’s otherworldly jour- ney, primarily through Hell (Inferno) are noticeable in both writers. We began the research with the text Put u zemlju mrtvih by Boba Blagojević and Buzzati’s story Viaggio agli inferni del secolo. In the paper, we partly relied on the posthumously published novel Putnica by the Serbian writer, as well as the story Sotto i nostri piedi by the Italian author. Critical insights of Romano Luperini proved as important in a brief overview of the transformation of the motif of the encounter with the dead, with a special reference to the work by Dante Alighieri. Also, we considered the presence of the fantastic literary mode based on the theoretical assumptions of Remo Ceserani.
