Abstract

The millenial movements which here punctuated the recent history of Fiji have been instigated by traditional priests who are fundamentally opposed to traditional chiefs as well as Europeans and Indians. They are aimed at creating new social groupings which are intended to replace kinship organizations headed by chiefs. This paper illusrates these features by the examples of two movements.
