Abstract

Abstract Both of these terms are misleading translations of titles connected to temple functionaries. The bearers of these titles need to have been neither well versed in religious doctrine nor full‐time employees of a religious institution. Confusion over these titles has also arisen by their translation as “prophet.” The typical Egyptian priest's duties in fact focused on the maintenance of the temple and on cult figures’ daily needs, not on prophecy.
