Abstract

This text concerns the divide that exists between countries with a long tradition of doing lithic reduction analysis and those that have none. It is argued that the divide is a step backwards for technology studies in general. The gap between research traditions is illustrated by a case study covering axe production in non-flint raw materials during the Late Mesolithic (6300–4000 BC) in southeastern Norway.
