Abstract

Mean daily prey consumption of southern pine beetle adults by adult Thanasimus dubius was 1.28. Non-ovipositing females consumed 1.36, while males consumed 1.17 prey/day. The effects of age and size of clerids were found to be non-significant to prey consumption. Prey consumption by ovipositing females increased to 2.48 prey/day. When prey availability exceeded maintenance requirements (0.33 prey/day) maximum mean longevity reached 97 days. Prey availability and predator longevity effectively determined prey consumption.
