Abstract
The first edition of this book was entitled "Textbook of Preventive Medicine" and had as its objective an epidemiologic approach to preventive medicine for those expecting to enter the private practice of medicine or dentistry. It attempted and succeeded in developing a philosophical approach to the subject. The title of the second edition emphasizes this point of view, and its preface reiterates the objectives. There are nineteen contributors, all of whom are competent in their respective fields and present their material with the common goal in mind. Certain changes in titles and rearrangement of chapters has taken place, and the number of chapters has been increased from eighteen to twenty-one. The book is now divided into three parts, namely, Part I. Basic Principles, Part II. Application of Principles, and Part III. Public Health—Preventive Medicine is Organized Community Action.
