Abstract

Objective To study the complication of deep brain stimulation(DBS)procedures in the treatment of movement disorders. Method Retropective analysis of The complications and side effects in 278patients(531 sides)treated by DBS. Results Complications of DBS were related with operational procedures,choice and location of targets and the hardware. Operative - related complications were intracranial hemorrhage,seizures,leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. Targets related complications were dyskinesia,dysarthria,ptosis. Hardware -related complications were lead break, migration, machine failure. Conclusions The complications of DBS could be reduced by severely operative procedures,adaptable methods and exact programming. Key words: Deep brain stimulation; Complications; Prevention
