Abstract

In order to compare the efficacy of metoclopramide, droperidol and two different doses of ondansetron in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after ambulatory surgery, a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was performed in 264 patients. The incidence of PONV was 6% and no antiemetic was more effective than placebo in preventing this complication during the 24 h after surgery.
