Abstract

Abstract In consideration of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and its effects on the workforce in the oil and gas industry, the OGP-IPIECA Health Committee (OIHC) set up a Cardiovascular Risk Factors Group in 2011 to review the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and their related health consequences and to propose innovative solutions that the oil and gas industry could implement. The outcome was the 2013 publication of "Prevention of Heart Attacks and Other Cardiovascular Diseases: A Guide for Managers, Employees and Company Health Professionals." The document provides basic guidance on the main types of CVDs and their causes and symptoms, looks at some implications of CVDs for the oil and gas industry, and offers strategies and improvements for implementation to help reduce the number of CVD-related deaths.
