Abstract

Patients who receive more than 3000 cc of tumescent solution occasionally develop potentially dangerous tachycardia, and may develop a paniclike reaction of symptomatic overload about 12 hours postoperatively. This article describes how premedication with the beta-blocker tenormin (atenolol) prevents this complication of tumescent liposuction anesthesia.
