Abstract

The cleavage of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) next to tryptophan is prevented by conversion of this residue into N′-formylkynurenine. The NBS treatment of proteins after selective ozonization of tryptophan residues results in the exlusive cleavage of C-tyrosyl peptide bonds.
