Abstract
Periventricular-intraventricular haemorrhage (PVH-IVH) is the commonest form of neonatal intracranial haemorrhage in the germinal matrix. In 15% cases the bleeding is complicated by periventricular haemorrhagic venous infarction and periventricular ischaemia. Later, posthaemorrhagic ventricular dilation and hydrocephaly can develop. Commonly associated with IVH is periventricular leucomalacia (PVL), the result of ischaemic injury.1 IVH and its complications are major predictors of cerebral palsy.
