Abstract

This is a fine, enjoyable book. The editors have brought together a number of knowledgeable and well-known contributors who have written on the major topics in running and running injuries. The book has a well-organized format. The initial chapters deal with biomechanics and examination of the runner, and the ensuing chapters with injuries involved in running. The final chapters deal with aspects important to runners, such as flexibility and stretching and nutritional needs. A chapter has also been devoted to injuries of female runners. The contributing authors have done an outstanding job of discussing their individual topics, both in reviewing appropriate literature and conveying their personal experiences, which we found rewarding. The prose is easy to read, and there is an appropriate number of figures and charts. Two chapters that are especially outstanding are chapter 14, Spine Problems in the Runner, and chapter 7, Exertional Compartment Syndromes. This is not
