Abstract

In this letter to the editor the author discusses the original authors’ incomplete data regarding their finding that abortions in residents of the St. Louis area decreased over time of the Contraceptive CHOICE Project. Comparing data from Planned Parenthood and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services the author found that the data used by the authors represent less than 30% of abortions in their comparison area. Calling the original conclusions “premature” this letter states that these corrected results do not necessarily mean that a policy of promoting no-cost long-acting reversible contraceptive methods will have no effected on unwanted pregnancy rates. A proper analysis of the population effect of increased access to these methods remains an important task for future research.
