Abstract

Objective: to discuss the epidemiological profile in the prevention of nosocomial infections in patients admitted to intensive care units. Method: this is a descriptive study that supports the systematic review of the literature. He carried out the survey of information through national publications such as scientific articles available in computerized databases like SciELO, LILACS, BVS, MEDLINE and in health magazines and specialized books. The articles were selected, read and analyzed, and then later started the discussion between the authors. Results: through this research it was possible to understand that the assessment of the epidemiological profile, mainly related to the control and prevention of nosocomial infections in Intensive Care Unit, is an important tool for planning the actions of health professionals. And the realization of these actions imply the guarantee of quality patient care and therefore the credibility of the institution.
