Abstract

A relationship between genotype and palliative care may seem distant or unlikely. The genotype is defined before fertilisation, and palliative care provides quality to the rest of an individual's life. However, these parallel lines that seem determinant or definitory, converge and articulate in Epigenetics, which shows that gene expression is susceptible to modification by environmental stimuli. Thus, whether a given disease occurs or not, the immune response and response to a specific treatment largely depend on the epigenome present in a particular individual. Reinforcing the concept of preventive medicine, and the return to a healthy lifestyle being the pillars of health, the Social Protection in Health System directs its efforts, not only to primary care, but also to a wide range of interventions included in the Universal Catalogue of Health Services (CAUSES), focused on prevention and early detection of disease, as well as to the funding of 29 priority programs from the Sub-secretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, through at least 20% of Annex IV contents. In this way, the Social Protection in Health System may fulfil its commitment with health in Mexico.
