Prevalencia de trastornos musculoesqueléticos relacionados con el trabajo en profesionales de los servicios de rehabilitación y unidades de fisioterapia

Abstract

ObjectiveThe main objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of the occurrence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in professionals of rehabilitation services and physiotherapy units at some point in their working life and in the last 12months. MethodsBetween December 2016 and June 2017, an epidemiological prevalence occurrence study was carried out on professionals of rehabilitation services and physiotherapy units. A total of 306 professionals out of 516 accepted to participate in the study. Fifteen of them were excluded, finally resulting in 291 participants: 180 physiotherapists, 28 physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, 5 nurses, 39 nursing assistants, 9 occupational therapists, 9 speech therapists, 8 caretakers, and 13 administrative staff. After obtaining their informed consent, all of them completed a questionnaire on work-related musculoskeletal disorders that was developed by the research team, based on the Kuorinka Nordic Questionnaire. ResultsThe response rate among all participants was 56.7%. Moreover, 91.8% of the professionals suffered some work-related musculoskeletal disorder at some time in their lives, and 83.2% in the last 12months. Prevalences occurrence varied between different body areas and occupations. The risk factors determined for the sample were, being female and working 35 or more hours per week. ConclusionsThere is a high prevalence occurrence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in professional rehabilitation services and physiotherapy units.
