Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus is a common pathogen in nosocomial infections. Its main reservoir are the nostrils and the main mode of transmission is by hospital interpersonal contact with patients, leading to infections with various clinical manifestations. This study determined the prevalence of nasal carriers of Staphylococcus aureus in nursing staff of Viedma Hospital. The study is descriptive and Cutaway. 58 samples swabbing nasal mucosa of nurses were taken in all. The samples were cultured on blood agar and subjected to Gram stain, catalase test, coagulase and mannitol salt agar culture, for the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. Gram staining in all cultures of Gram cocci, also reagents for the catalase test and 10 (17.24%) were positive for coagulase test and mannitol salt latter confirming the presence of the pathogen was observed. more on staff of Neurosurgery with 3 coagulase positive and mannitol salt samples was found. In the ranking by professional category was identified that affected the largest number corresponds to the group of Licensed 4 positive samples. The prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus in the hospital Viedma is 17.24%, data that represent the possibility of an increased risk of infections easy interpersonal contagion within the institution, so that strict compliance with biosafety standards recommended avoiding possible infections and complications in patients.
