Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Management of Pressure Sores in the Teaching Hospital – Medical and Surgical Treatment

Abstract

Pressure ulcer have a profound impact upon the subjects lives, including physical, social and financialstatus, change of body image and loss of independence and control. The incidence of pressure soreformation is highly variable, depending on the population of patients evaluated.Pressure sores continuesto affect the practice of every medical and surgical professional are common cases of morbidity inhospitalized persons. They lead to inconvenience to the patient and the treating doctor and it’s stillchallenging for surgeon to treat and is a cause of mortality. Thus it requires multidisciplinary approachfor its management. The preventive measures need to be constantly evaluated & updated; hence thisstudy was carried out to analyze current status of pressure sores, their prevalence, risk factors andmanagement (Medical v/s Surgical) & outcome
