Abstract

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is identified by presence of both pyuria and at least 50,000 colonies/mL of a single uropathogenic organism in an appropriately collected specimen of urine. In young children, the only presentation of a UTI may be fever. Young children may show nonspecific signs such as irritability, feeding poorly, vomiting, sleeping more, or show signs of jaundice.
