Abstract
Summary 1. The record surveys trypanosomes from 1,190 freshwater fishes belonging to 15 species from Northern India. 2. The taxonomic status, percentage of infection (4.4-46.6 %), infection intensity (6-100 trypanosomes per film) and comparative variations in the infection of 8 species of trypanosomes are incorporated. 3. Cross transmission experiments were conducted to determine host specificity among piscine trypanosomes; validity of host specificity as a criterion for species differentiation among fish monoflagellates is discussed.
