Abstract

Trichophyton tonsurans has recently emerged as the leading cause of tinea capitis in the U.S. With the change in the causative organism have come changes in the epidemiology of the disease. Tinea capitis now affects adults as well as children, blacks more than whites, and is spread primarily from human to human, rather than from animals to humans.
