The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a periodic survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that examines a nationally representative sample of approximately 5000 subjects each year. Further description of NHANES methodologies can be found in this article's Online Repository at www.jacionline.org.
