Abstract
The present study investigated the isolation and identification of members of the family Enterobacteriaceae, from Common Carp of Dal Lake, Wular Lake, Manasbal Lake, Aanchar Lake, Nigeen Lake and Jhelum River in Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir, India) during May 2009-April 2010. A total of 144 (24 each-source wise and 6 each season wise) fish samples were examined. The organisms were identified by cultural, morphological and biochemical tests. Wular Lake had highest recovery of total bacterial isolates in all the seasons. Autumn and spring season recovered highest and lowest isolates respectively. The most common Gram negative bacterial species recovered were E.coli, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., and Providencia spp. The other bacterial species isolated were Citrobacter spp., Serratia spp. and Shigella spp. During this study period none of the sample was positive for Salmonella spp. The serotypes of E.coli recovered were O2, O22, O49, O78, O84, O86, O152 and UT.
