Abstract

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a strong independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Hypertension is a common cause of LVH. Echocardiography is the standard to identify LVH in the clinical setting, but this is not available at every hospital in Malaysia. Electrocardiography (ECG) can be used to screen for the presence of LVH, using a composite of voltages as described in Cornell criteria, Modified Cornell Criteria and Sokolow-Lyon Criteria. The prevalence of LVH detected by ECG in Sarawak primary care setting has not been established.
