Abstract

A parasitological study was conducted to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) helminth infections in sheep in different localities at Bardarash district, Duhok, Iraqi kurdistan from October 2014 to May 2015. A total of 160 faecal samples were collected for qualitative fecal examination. The study revealed that 96(60%) of examined sheep were found infested with one or more species of helminth parasites. From examined animals 11 helminth species were diagnosed, the recovered species were identified as Marshallagia marshalli , Nematodirus spp., Haemonchus contortus , Fasciola hepatica , Moniezia benedeni , Trichuris ovis , Moniezia expanza , Chabertia ovina , Bunostomum trigonocephalum , Teladorsagia circuntcincta , and Cooperia spp. Prevalence of helminths was significantly (p 2 years (61.40%) and young sheep aged >1-2 year (43.48%),while no significant relationship found between prevalence and the reproductive conditions of sheep.
