Methods Eight hundred and sixty-four candi- dates were randomly selected from voluntary male population aged 50 years and above,832 of those were included in the study.and 32 were rejected because of incomplete data, unwillingness to be sub- iected to examination and other reasons.Blood samples were taken from all participants, and a ques- tionnaire and medical examination including DRE,transabdominal ultrasonographic examinaition were Derformed. Results The prevalence of BPH was found to be 66.9%(557/832)with an increase with aging(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis shows obesity and irregular diet were protective fae- tors.and age, high annual income were risk factors for BPH(P<0.05).Only 43.0%village men know a little about BPH,and the awareness level had close correlation with education level, previous BPH treatment experience(P<0.05). Conclusions The prevalence of BPH is rising in the rural ar- eas of Tianjin.BMI,irregulare diet, age, annual income, and testosterone are strongly related to sub- jects with BPH.
