Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To define whether antiphospholipid antibodies (APA) are associated with unexplained infertility (UI) as they are with other reproductive problems DESIGN: Case-control study MATERIALS AND METHODS: 715 participants including 510 with unexplained infertility and 205 fertile control women had blood drawn for determination of 21 APA including IgG, IgM, and IgA anticardiolipin (CL), antiphosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE), antiphosphatidyl inositol (PI), antiphospatidic acid (PA), anti phosphatidyl glycerol (PG), antiphosphatidyl choline (PC), and antiphosphatidyl serine (PS) by ELISA . RESULTS: The frequencies of APA among women with UI compared with fertile controls are listed in Table. More than 1 positive APA was noted in 12% of women with UI compared with 1.5% of control women (P=0.002).Tabled 1Table.
