Abstract

Abstract Nazer, A.H.K. and Tavakoli, A.R. 1994. Prevalence of antibiotic resistance and s-lactamase production by bacteria isolated from cases of bovine mastitis. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 6: 167–176. Prevalence of clinical and subcliinical forms of bovine mastitis, the determination of different antibiotic resistant patterns alongwith β-lactamase production exhibited by penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin and cephalothin resistant strains isolated from cases of bovine mastitis were studied. The occurrence of clinical and subclinical mastitis were 5.38 and 71.9 percent in herds respectively. A total of 290 isolates, comprising of 178 (61.2%) Staphylococcus aureus, 55 (19%) coagulate negative staphylococci, 23 (8%) alfa haemolytic streptococci, 18 (6.2%) Bacillus cereus, 9 (3.1%) Escherichia coli and 7 (2.5%) Klebsiella spp, strains could be identified Antibiotic sensitivity testing showed that 93 (32.06%) of these isolates were resistant to one or more drugs. Highest resistance was against Penicillin or ampici...
