Abstract
Objective To learn the prevalence and risk factors of diabetic retinopathy (DR) of servants in Wuhan railways bureau,Hubei province.Methods A total of 11873 Wuhan railways bureau servants (20-75 years old) were enrolled in this study.A11 participants diagnosed with diabetes underwent questionnaire,ordinary project examine,laboratory examine,ophthalmologic examination,stereoscopic fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA).Photographs and FFA were graded in a masked manner to assess the presence and severity of DR and diabetic macular edema (DME).Results Of 11873 servants,DM was confirmed in 380 patients,the prevalence was 3.20% (380/11873).Of 380 DM patients,DR was in 81 patients,the DR prevalence was 21.32% (81/380).There were statistically difference on the duration of diabetes,Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA 1C),Fasting plasma glucose (FPG),Triglyceride (TG),Low density lipoprotein (LDL),whether or not to use insulin and levels of education between DR group and non DR group (P <0.05).The duration of diabetes,high HbA 1C,high FPG,high TG and high LDL were the independent risk factors of DR (P <0.01).Conclusions DR prevalence is 21.32% (81/380) in Wuhan railways bureau servants.The duration of diabetes,high HbA 1C,high FPG,high TG and high LDL are the independent risk factors of DR.
