Abstract

The present study was planned to analyse the socio-demographic profile & factors leading to substance abuse among patients admitted at De-addiction centres in Durg, Chhattisgarh. In this cross-sectional study, all the patients admitted at the Deaddiction centres during the study period were interviewed. A pretested questionnaire was used to interview them. Total 460 patients were interviewed out of which 79.78% were males, 52.61% were in the age group of 17–40 years, 60.22% were married & 74.13% were from rural setup. Substance abuse was most common: in lower socio-economic class (55.65%), in graduates (41.09%) & in students (31.30%). It was relatively common in persons living alone (42.83%) & having family history (63.7%).
