Abstract

The efficacy of permethrin when applied from a pressurized aerosol dispenser containing a 0.5% formulation was determined by field assays against natural infestations of Amblyomma americanum (L.) in eastern Oklahoma. Single applications of 60, 30, and 15 sec to cotton clothing provided complete (100%) protection for three successive 1-h daily exposures of human subjects to tick-infested habitat. The residual activity and concentrations of permethrin in the treated clothing were determined by adult mosquito assays and gas-chromatographic analyses in the laboratory.
