Abstract
The pressure of a ferromagnetic Ising model has been calculated using the Bethe approximation. The entropy of the spins was held constant in the calculation to mimic the adiabatic-demagnetization experiment of Lang et al. in HCP solid 3He, while the magnetic field was varied. The field dependence of the pressure is in good qualitative agreement with the experiment, indicating that the overall behavior observed by the experiment largely arises from a generic property of ferromagnets rather than a detail of the spin interactions specific to solid 3He.
