Abstract

The dc magnetization of insulating UO2under high pressure up to ∼1 GPahas been measured using a piston–cylinder cell. Pressure-induced weakferromagnetism appeared at low pressure (∼0.2 GPa).Both the remanent magnetization and the coercive force increase as pressureincreases. This weak ferromagnetism may come from spin canting or fromuncompensated moments around grain boundaries.
