Abstract

The flow near a parallelogram prism bonded to the rim of a rotating circular disk was studied experimentally. Pressure fluctuations were measured on the lateral surfaces of the prism at various rotation speeds spanning a range in which the boundary layer on the disk surface near the disk outer radius is either laminar or turbulent. The results suggest that the fluctuating pressure is primarily caused by the shedding of vortices from the lateral sides of the prism. However, the fluctuating pressure is also strongly dependent upon the state of disk boundary layer—whether it is laminar or turbulent.
