Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper presents results of experimental investigations of nearfield of finite amplitude underwater sources. Field distribution of a plane circular piston source and a focused circular source are determined. A course ofphenomenon of a wave distortion are illustrated by showing distributions of fundamental and harmoniccomponents of radiated wave in chosen cross-sections of the nearfield area. Keywords: nonlinear acoustics, finite amplitude sources, nonlinear wave distortion 1. INTRODUCTION The phenomenon of a nonlinear wave propagation which occurs in the field of a finite amplitude source is quiteoften a subject of investigation. It is caused by practical application of such sources both in medical application, and technical one, and especially in testing the properties of materials. The structure of the field of differentsources radiating finite amplitude wave are considered both theoretically' and experimentally4'. Investigations concern various aspects of wave propagation in plane and focusing beams6'7.
