Abstract

Pressure effects on N-type ferrimagnetism of SmVO 3 were studied under the circumstances of 10% Ca 2+-doping or about 1 GPa hydrostatic pressure. These chemical and physical pressures induced the phase transition from N- to (Q or P)-type ferrimagnetism, where N-phase shows the zero magnetization at finite compensation temperature, and (Q or P)-phase has the positive magnetization in the whole temperature range. The estimated intra- and inter-sublattice exchange integrals revealed that the SmVO 3 located very near the boundary between N- and Q-phases under ambient pressure.
