Abstract

We have studied the effect of pressure on the quadrupolar order in TmTe by specific heat measurements from 0.6 to 10 K for pressures up to 1.6 GPa. The quadrupolar ordering temperature T Q attains a maximum value at 0.4 GPa and then decreases until it almost disappears at about 1.6 GPa. The entropy associated with the phase transition is also suppressed dramatically by pressure.
