Abstract

High pressure specific heat C (P < 0.8 GPa) and ac magnetic susceptibility χac (P ≤ 1.0 GPa) of Ce7Ni3 have been measured in the temperature ranges from 1.5 to 6 K and from 2 to 20 K, respectively. At low temperature, C and χac decrease steeply as pressure increases up to 0.5 GPa. The decrease in χac indicates the vanishing of the local magnetic moment. The Kondo temperature TK, evaluated from C(T) data above 0.5 GPa on the spin 12 Kondo model, increases rapidly with pressure. The magnitude of δ In TK/δP is 4.0 GPa−1, and implies the extraordinary large electronic Grüneisen parameter for Ce7Ni3.
