Abstract

We have studied pressure dependence on the cooperative Jahn–Teller specific heat in the orthorhombic PrCu 2 using a clamp-type pressure-cell. The pressure in the clamp-type pressure-cell is determined from the superconducting transition temperatures of Sn (999.99%) at liquid-helium temperatures. The pressure is ineffective on the specific heat for PrCu 2 up to 0.8 GPa below 5 K. Above 5 K, obvious depression in the specific heat peak is observed as pressure increases. The Jahn–Teller transition temperature T C increases with increasing pressure.
