Abstract

A complex magnetic behavior of the Er 2Fe 17 compound can be characterized by the first-order magnetization process observed in the hard c magnetization direction. The magnetization and critical field H CR of the first-order magnetization process in the Er 2Fe 17 single crystal have been measured under hydrostatic pressure up to 10 kbar in the temperature range 5–300 K. A significant decrease of the spontaneous magnetization with increasing pressure has been observed. The value of H CR increases under pressure at low temperatures, but the pressure dependence of H CR is more complex above 60 K.
