Abstract

AbstractEffect of external pressure on annihilation of ortho‐positronium (o‐Ps) hi molecular liquids has been studied for benzene, toluene, isooctane, n‐hexane and carbon disulfide. In all cases the o‐Ps lifetime becomes shorter as pressure is increased. The shorting of the lifetimes in the case of the former four liquids is found to be almost in agreement with the prediction of a simple bubble model. The change of the lifetime in carbon disulfide is, however, much larger than that expected from the model and the discrepancy can be explained by assuming some attractive interaction between Ps and the surrounding carbon disulfide molecules. Some discussion is given on the effect of pressure on Ps yields.
