Abstract
Part I of this study discussed the proper implementation of pressure boundary conditions in the numerical simulation of incompressible fluid flows. Part II discusses the discretization of the energy equation, and details the numerical procedures used to model conjugate heat transfer. Channel flow over a backward facing step is simulated to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method for modeling inlet-outlet flows. As an application, conjugate heat transfer in a compact heat exchanger between the heat exchanger fins and the connecting fluid is analyzed. The study shows that conjugate heat transfer modeling provides a more realistic simulation of heat exchanger performance.
