Abstract

OFHC copper disks were sheared at one pressure to a given strain and then strained at a second pressure to a final strain. From these stress-strain curves, the change in shear strength resulting from only a pressure change with no additional strain, ΔτI, was determined. This change was found to be a function of both the pressure at which shearing takes place and the strain at which the pressure change takes place. The results indicate that ΔτI varies, to a first approximation, in the same manner as the shear strength.
