Abstract

1. A study was made of the compressibility of nickel (with or without strengthening hafnium oxide inclusions) and chromium powders. It is shown that the addition of a strengthening phase by the method of chemical coprecipitation does not significantly alter the compressibility of nickel powder. 2. The introduction of disperse hafnium oxide particles into nickel slightly slows down the increase in density with rise in pressure for both nickel powder and mixtures of nickel and chromium powders (the factor n diminishes), but at the same time the relative density of compacts increases with rise in chromium content. 3. Logarithmic expressions have been derived describing the variation of the relative density of compacts from the powders investigated and their mixtures with compaction pressure.
