An Odyssey generally depicts a long voyage marked by many changes of fortune during which an individual encounters a myriad of exhilarating experiences. However, in Greek mythology, unlike in modern literature, the Odyssey stems from the gods’ ire; they are known to be unforgiving divinities who, when angered, tamper with mortal affairs.
