Abstract

Dr Peter Simpson, president of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, trained at St Bartholomew9s Hospital, graduating in 1970. He was appointed consultant anaesthetist at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, in 1982. He has held posts concerned with anaesthesia education, training, and examining in the United Kingdom and Europe, and he is past chairman of the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD), deputy chairman of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) and President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology.
