Abstract

On the basis of the definition of the subject of Radiation Technology suggested by the author, the interconnections between Radiation Technology and Atomic Energetics have been shown. The distingguishing features of the methods of calculating and constructing radiation installations with long- and short-lived gamma-sources to irradiate bulk or mixable objects are formulated. The methods of determining the Radiation processes economics are also described. Expedience and effectiveness of gamma sources use in Radiation Technology are shown on the basis of the experience with versatile and commercial installations developed in the USSR. It is shown that due to the usage of gamma sources Radiation Technology becomes one of the most significant fields in the peaceful use of atomic energy since in this case - in addition to realising commercial processes and producting materials with improved or new properties - this technology also enables the most economical substitution of nuclear energy sources for the organic ones both in industry and in municipal economy.
