Abstract
Presentation of the post-socialist city dossier
Highlights
Belasri investigates the trajectory of the shopping mall BBI Center in Sarajevo, in the past known as Sarajka, its privatization, and transformation of the attached public square - the October Square
The analysis shows that commercial goals and consumption guided the transformation of the shopping mall and public square, in practice, the shopping mall and its surroundings are limitedly "consumed" for commercial activities by the residents; rather, it is a place for leisure activities
The postsocialist urban planning system showed a lack of responsiveness, and it was connected with corrupt practices, which triggered populist urban movements
