Abstract

SPring-8 is the largest third–generation synchrotron radiation source. Commissioning of the injector linac, synchrotron and the storage ring was completed very smoothly. The operation of the storage ring started in the middle of March 1997 and the first observation of synchrotron radiation was on March 26, user service mode operation started in October 1997 with a current of 20 mA. In March 1998, 100 mA was stored successfully in the storage ring. The obtained performance and machine parameters are presented.
